5G Standalone network
A full 5G SA architecture on the Hi5 platform, measured and put to use
Context
On the Hi5 platform, I analysed a full 5G Standalone (SA) architecture: a gNodeB, a 5G core and a dedicated optical fibre.
Beyond the analysis, the network carried two applications: real-time IoT geolocation and mobile video surveillance.
Architecture
From the radio to the 5G core, and on to the applications
What I did
- Analysed the full 5G SA architecture: gNodeB, 5G core and dedicated optical fibre.
- Measured throughput and latency depending on the network topology.
- Built a real-time IoT geolocation system with MQTT and Node-RED.
- Connected a mobile video-surveillance application over 5G.
Terms
- 5G SA
- 5G Standalone: a 5G radio network backed by a native 5G core, without relying on a 4G core.
- gNodeB
- The 5G base station.
